Controller
The controller for utilities.li and the tools under *.utilities.li within the meaning of data protection law, in particular the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is:
- MicroCom GmbH (Roman Kuser)
- Alemannenstrasse 24, LI-9485 Nendeln, Liechtenstein
- Show email address – The address is only revealed when clicked.
Principle
The tools work without an account or sign-up. We set no cookies, show no ads and build no profiles. We only process what is needed to run the tools.
Hosting and server logs
utilities.li and the tools are hosted by METANET AG in Switzerland, which processes the data on our behalf. When a page is requested, the web server automatically logs the IP address, date and time, the requested address, the referring page, and browser and operating system. This is technically required to deliver the page; we only use it for secure operation and troubleshooting (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Storage in your own browser
Some settings are kept in your browser's storage (localStorage), for example the chosen language, best times and high scores, or your player name in MapQuiz. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us. You can delete it at any time in your browser settings.
Visitor statistics with Umami
On MapQuiz and MapCompare we use the open-source software Umami for visitor statistics. It runs on a server we operate ourselves at Infomaniak Network AG in Switzerland (stats.gateway.li); no third party receives the data. Umami sets no cookies and does not track you across other websites. It records, in anonymous form, the pages viewed, the referring page, browser, operating system, device type and country of origin. We only use this to see which tools are used and do not pass it on (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If JavaScript is disabled or blocked, nothing is recorded.
MapQuiz: duel mode
For a two-player duel your browser connects to our game server on the same server at Infomaniak in Switzerland (mapquiz-api.gateway.li). It processes the player name you choose, the room code and the game progress. This data is kept in memory only, is not stored permanently and is deleted with the room – after 24 hours at the latest. If you prefer, use a nickname instead of your full name.
MapCompare: map tiles
MapCompare shows a background map. Your browser loads the map images directly from the provider: in the German view from tile.openstreetmap.de (FOSSGIS e.V., Germany), in the English view from Esri (Esri Inc., USA). The provider receives your IP address and the address of the requesting page; with Esri the data is transferred to the USA. The providers' privacy policies apply.
Your rights
You have the right to access the data processed about you, to rectification, erasure and restriction of processing, to object, and to data portability. You may also lodge a complaint with the competent data protection authority. An email to Show email address – The address is only revealed when clicked. is enough for any request.
Changes
We update this privacy policy when the tools change. The current version on this page applies.
